West Maui, from Papawai Point to Kahului Bay, makes for another outrageously beautiful, MUST SEE drive. The West Maui Mountains are older than Haleakala - more eroded, lush, and alive. The highest peak of these mountains is Pu'u Kukui at 5,788 feet. 'Iao Valley is the most famous valley of this mountain range.
There are hikes, beaches, lookouts, valleys, towns, shopping, water activities - in other words, there is something for everyone along this scenic highway.
The past Lahaina, Highway 30, is not heavily traveled with few towns. Fill the gas tank and bring drinks and snacks before starting out. Highway 30, prior to Kahakuloa Village at Mile Marker #41, turns into a one lane road which is carved into the mountain and changes names to Highway 340.
DIRECTIONS:
Highway 30, which becomes Highway 340, is the main road that encircles West Maui.
