Hawaii Forest and Trail has seven different Nature Adventure Tours which showcase the Big Island's scenic diversity, including Hawaii Volcanoes, Hawaii waterfalls, rainforests, valleys, mountain summits and more. Our Nature Adventure Tours feature the best tour locales, great customer service, relaxed easy walks and hikes and professionally-trained Interpretive Naturalist Guides who share with you not only the extraordinary landscapes but also the life and legends of Hawaii.
Hawaii's birdlife is among the most interesting on the planet with many of the unusual species here classified as either endangered or threatened. Because of the encroachments of urban areas and "civilization," many native species are now found in rainforest, montane forest, dryland and other environments which are not always easily accessible to the average visitor or those unfamiliar with Hawaii's terrain. Also, Hawaii has little mammal wildlife, so birds really offer the visitor one of the only opportunities to observe endemic species - other than aquatic varieties - in a natural environment.
Hawaii Forest & Trail offers two bird watching adventures which are for more serious/experienced birders as well as those who have heretofore had little interest in avian wildlife. There is a simple reason for this: Though the birds are certainly great to see, just visiting the extraordinary habitats in which they live - and which few visitors to Hawaii will ever see - is a superb nature adventure in itself.
The naturalist guides who lead Hawaii Forest & Trail's birding adventures are not only highly knowledgeable in the nature aspects (geography, geology, biology, natural history) of these tours, they are equally knowledgeable about Hawaii's birdlife. They make both veteran bird observers as well as the casual nature lover feel right at home.
Hawaii Forest & Trail’s adventure tours have attracted attention from major national and international media and have been featured in Town & Country, National Geographic Traveler, E-Entertainment, the New York Times, the Robb Report, CNN’s "Travel Guide," NBC’s "Evening Magazine," Fox TV’s "No Boundaries" and The Travel Channel.
The Pachecos and Hawaii Forest & Trail were named as Entrepreneur of the Year for the Big Island in 1998. The company continues to work for conservation with students in the schools, sponsoring free field trips, participating in tree planting and other community service projects and practicing their credo that "conservation begins with education."
